What is it about these that makes them interesting? All I can discern is the retro look and exclusivity is what appeals to people.

For me it's like a BMW M3 if she were made in 1950s.
It's based on M3 right?

From the thumbnail, i was hoping that this was just a really, really wealthy man''s idea of a rat rod. Now, I haz a sad.

Hmm
If i'm the owner, maybe I'll turn it into a rat rod!
The body damage looks like an easy fix, M3 spareparts is everywhere, I have the money, what do I'm waiting for?
*Wiesmann is expensive eh?
Yes, maybe the handling won't be as good as the original car, but I don't really care.

I like the way you think!

Not really. The chassis is made in-house, only the engine and transmission are by BMW M. The car from above is a MF5 GT, and depending on the year it was produced it has the 5.0L V10 (same as the E60 M5) or the newer M5 spec 4.4L Biturbo V8 engine.

I was thinking it's an M3..
So..
It's like an M5 from the 50's!

Uhm, no, a 50s M5 would be this with some go-fast goodies:
The Wiesmann is a modern sportscar with the design and feel of an old car.
